The Union Public Service Commission will hold the Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2008 on 17th February, 2008 for admission to Indian Military Academy and Air Force Academy for the Courses commencing in January, 2009 and Officers Training Academy. Chennai for the Courses (Men and Women) commencing in April, 2009.
Salient features of the examination are published herein for general information of candidates. For details regarding the Eligibility conditions, syllabus and Scheme of the examination, Centres of examination, Guidelines for filling up application form etc, aspirants must consult the Detailed Notice of the examination published in the Employment News/Rozgar Samachar dated 29th September 2007.
Eligibility Criteria:
Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status:
- For Indian Military Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1985 and not later than 1st January, 1990 only are eligible.
- For Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1987 (2nd January, 1985 in case of NCC Naval Wing ‘C’ Certificate holders) and not later than 1st January, 1990 only are eligible.
- For Air Force Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1986 and not later than 1st January, 1990 only are eligible.
- For officers’ Training Academy – (SSC Course for Men) : Male candidates (married or unmarried) born not earlier than 2nd January, 1984 and not later than 1st January, 1990 only are eligible.
- For Officers’ Training Academy – SSC (Women Non – Technical) Course : Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried, and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible. They should have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1984 and not later than 1st January 1990.
Educational Qualifications:
Indian Military Academy and Officers’ Training Academy - Degree of a recognised university or equivalent
Naval Academy - B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engg
Air Force Academy - B.Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engg
Candidates appearing at the degree or equivalent examination also eligible to compete. Such candidates will be required to submit the proof of passing the requisite qualifying examination by a date to be specified in the Commission’s Notice for the Examination.
Application Form Details:
Candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Hear Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix – III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 20/- (Rupees twenty only). Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.

Fees:
Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) through Central Recuritment Fee Stamp only. SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of Fees. (OBC candidates are required to pay full fees)

(b) For Officers’ Training Academy

2. General Knowledge (Objective type) 100 Marks
Total 200 Marks
Candidates selected in the Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy get permanent commission, however cadets passing out of Officers Training Academy get short service commission. |
